So the computer was still on the fritz for a while and Brian and I spent 5 days at girls camp, so I haven't posted in a long time. Here's what we've been up to.
I had to play Dorothy in a skit for girls camp and couldn't find a costume anywhere. So what did I do. I found blue gingham at WalMart for a dollar a yard and thought,"Let's make a costume!" I've never really followed a pattern before, and I've never made an item of clothing before. Needless to say, It took a long time, some frustration, and this picture is a really flattering one! But the costume did the job.
This also took up a lot of my time. I worked in the kitchen for camp, which was a blast, so I drew up menus for the girls for each day of camp. If you can't tell, we used "The Wizard of Oz" for the theme at camp, hence the food names.
Some updates on the kids:
The kids came up one morning at camp to visit. Briggs saw a big red ant and said, "ok. I'm officially freaked out!"

Im impressed with your sewing. Tell Ash not to knock the tooth fairy completely out of commission! Are those the chalkboard markers! I love the look. You will have to remind me where you got them again so that I can order some!
Your creativity and skills are amazing, and obviously passed on to your kids!
They are not chalkboard markers. I just used paint markers on black paper to make it look like a chalkboard menu. But I had to have new menus everyday, so I decided to just use paper instead of having to create one every day while I was at camp. The chalkboard markers can be found at chalkink.com, but I also found them at Michaels.
The menu signs are gorgeous! I can't believe you made that costume as your first project - that's a complicated pattern! Way to go!
I too was impressed by the menu signs- they looked even better in person! The costume looks great too! You could even utilize it again for halloween!
Honey, you did such a wonderful thing at getting into this girls camp and I sure hope the girls appreciated it! We even got comments from non relatives on how good you were at Dorothy! We'd be happy to babysit again next year!
