T-shirts and waterfalls

The Kids both had a great first day of school. They both came home happy (trust me. I wasn't getting my hopes up). We are now moving onto day 4 of school, and they are still happy and enjoying it. Briggs however, came home from school today in a different shirt. "How did that happen?" you might ask. So then I will tell you, "Because a little boy in his class threw up on him." So Briggs now has a "California Distinguished School" T-Shirt that the office gave him in their attempt to clean him up. Briggs didn't really seem to care. That's my Briggs!
Always the Fashionista! Thanks, Grandma, for taking her shopping.

This is some of Ty's handywork with the camera. (That's a picture of our key bowl that is WELL above his head, but apparently not out of his reach.) The week has been nice, justing having Ty to concentrate on for half of the day, but his antics don't seem to be slowing down. The other day he created a beautiful waterfall in our master bathroom by stopping up the sink and turning on the hot water. I realized he had done this because apparently indoor waterfalls scare Ty. . . so he started crying because he knew he was in trouble. I loved swabbing our bathroom floor and sponging up an inch of water from all of our bathroom drawers. My makeup compacts have never been so clean!(I am now holding up my "Sarcasm" sign.)
Tonight he smacked Briggs and Brian asked him why he does stuff like that. He responded with a very mature,"I'm 2 and half, Dad."
'Nuf said. Pray for me.

Vertigo

Not only is this one of my favorite movies (I love Hitchcock), but I had the bizarre experience of Vertigo last night. NOT FUN! How can you be sound asleep, then get dizzy and feel like you are falling when you are laying down? Of course, then I got nauseaous. I had to lay really still until I fell asleep. Every turn of my head would bring on the crazy spinning sensation, even with my eyes closed. This morning I am doing ok, but please, Vertigo spirits, pass me by next time.
Have any of you experienced this? I know my sister and mom have, so I guess it's inevitable for me.

Milestones

Just an update on some of the fun milestones we are experiencing in the family.
Briggs found out he is going to be in a K-1 combo class this next year. He had his Kindergarden tea yesterday to get oriented to school and is very excited. I'm not sure how I feel about my 4 year old being with first graders, but I realize that at his reading level, this is the place he needs to be. There will only be 6 little kindergardners in the class, but he will get to do 1st grade work if he is able to and the teacher thinks it is best for him. I really think this is going to be great for him because he would be bored out of his mind if he had to sit and color an apple and learn the letter a.
Ashlynn found out yesterday who her teacher is and shed some tears because her best friend Maggie is not in her class. Maggie's mom and I took the girls out on a date last night to ease the sting a little bit and the girls were so silly and out of control I really think it is a good thing they are not in the same class. They might drive their teacher crazy otherwise!
I'm looking forward to school starting, but I will miss the carefree days of summer.

My new love

I've recently discovered Amy Butler (I know. Most of you have known about her forever!) and I just can't get enough of her! Books, fabric, bags! I love the colors and the patterns!

What happens when. . .

Mommy is trying to blog and the boys are fighting and I don't really have time to figure out how to edit and layout properly? Below is the result of such a circumstance.

Ashlynn's celebration

We went to the zoo to start out the celebration on Ash's B-day. Here is Briggs with a Meerkat.

Ashlynn helped with the d
decorations for her party.

I made a banner for the party, as well.

Can you tell she was very excited?

Maggie helped her open presents like a little bridesmaid! It was cute.

She really liked the rock polisher, Mom. Thanks.

Fancy flours

I saw some products from this company, Fancy Flours, on Martha Stewart show today and I just liked them. They showcases some really pretty cupcake wraps. They have an online catalog on the site that has some really neat stuff. I especially liked the edible jewels for cakes. Ash would like those.

Happy Birthday Ashlynn!

Happy Birthday, Sweetie! I can't believe my little Ninny-noo is growing up so fast. You've always been the most beautiful little girl!

Ashlynn came skipping in this morning chanting, "I'm 7! I'm 7!, I'm 7! I'm 7!"
Always so full of energy!

So here's a video that Papa taught Ashlynn. She's been saying it ever since, so I thought it appropriate to post on her birthday.

Broken record

I was just talking to my sis in law about our children who are little broken records. Why does Ty think it's ok to ask for a popcicle every morning for breakfast, with out fail. Why, when we are watching Charlie Brown this morning does he have to ask every two minutes, "mommy, what's his name?" "Snoopy, Ty" "oh". . . . "Mommy, what's his name?" "Snoopy, Ty" "oh". . .

Update

So the computer was still on the fritz for a while and Brian and I spent 5 days at girls camp, so I haven't posted in a long time. Here's what we've been up to.
Ashlynn decided to make a tooth fairy catching kit. Brian helped her make blue prints to create a contraption to help her with her goal. I love the fairy dust and wooden mallet in the kit.
I had to play Dorothy in a skit for girls camp and couldn't find a costume anywhere. So what did I do. I found blue gingham at WalMart for a dollar a yard and thought,"Let's make a costume!" I've never really followed a pattern before, and I've never made an item of clothing before. Needless to say, It took a long time, some frustration, and this picture is a really flattering one! But the costume did the job.

This also took up a lot of my time. I worked in the kitchen for camp, which was a blast, so I drew up menus for the girls for each day of camp. If you can't tell, we used "The Wizard of Oz" for the theme at camp, hence the food names.
Some updates on the kids:
The kids came up one morning at camp to visit. Briggs saw a big red ant and said, "ok. I'm officially freaked out!"

Dee-Dee Boys!

This is what the boys did today. (Dee-Dee is what Briggs calls his blanket). And, yes. I know. I need to feed Briggs. One of these days I'm going to get poked in the eye by his shoulder blade.

Mendocino

Here are the kids cooking with Auntie Nessa and cousin Gehrig in the kitchen at Mendocino. Natalee and Ty must have been off playing Nintendo. Tee hee!

I love this movie

I recently watched this movie and fell in love with it. Not only is it a fun modern fairy tale with great actors, but I LOVE the color palette and artwork in the movie. Christina Ricci's wardrobe is so coloful, yet classic. I covet her room and vow to decorate my house like it - starting with the terrariums. They actually reminded me of the fairy garden I just posted. In the movie they are bell or cloche jars with miniature plants decorated with little woodland people and creatures. I wish I could find an image of the terrariums from the movie, but here is an image from smith and hawkin just to give you an idea of what a terrarium is. If anyone can find the image from the movie, let me know. I also love the title lettering of the movie complete with flowers, vines and butterflies twisting around it ( this image does not show this). Heres the link to the movie: penelopethemovie.com
Let me know what you think.
